Part-Time Wheelthrowing Instructor
Byrdie’s Pottery, a community ceramics studio in New Orleans, is seeking a skilled and passionate Wheelthrowing Instructor to join our teaching team. We are looking for someone who is not only a talented thrower and experienced teacher, but also a strong communicator and enthusiastic community member. This role is ideal for someone who values collaboration, creativity, and inclusive education in a shared studio environment.

Location: Byrdie’s Pottery, New Orleans, LA
Compensation: $30/hour
Employment Type: Independent Contractor
Position Details
Schedule: Weekday evenings and weekends; instructors typically teach 2–3 classes per week.
Class Length: 3 hours per class (+1 paid hour per session for out of class work)
Rate: $30/hour, which includes time for out of class work like planning, curriculum development, quarterly instructor meetings, and setup/cleanup.
Start Date: Rolling, depending on availability.
Responsibilities:
Teach beginner to intermediate wheelthrowing classes to adults.
Develop engaging and thoughtful class curricula aligned with Byrdie’s studio values.
Participate in quarterly instructors' meetings and contribute to a collaborative teaching environment.
Communicate with students via email regarding class updates and questions.
Support studio operations, including helping with clay recycling and studio cleanliness.
Represent Byrdie’s Pottery in a professional and friendly manner.
Lift and move up to 50 pounds as needed (e.g., clay bags, reclaim buckets).
Qualifications:
Proficient in wheelthrowing with a strong personal practice.
Prior teaching experience (group instruction preferred).
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Reliable, organized, and attentive to detail.
